CarPlay Dongle

Hi,
I know apple/ CarPlay shakes hands differently to AA which is why you need a dongle for it to work. On your website you have mentioned CarlinKit CPC200-CCPA specifically is this the only adapter that works or one that's been used and does work. Would any Carlinkit or CarPlay dongle work like (Ottocast)?
And assume once you plug it into the Pi connect to that CarPlay will work? Do you still use the Pi hotspot and bluetooth...?
Thanks,
Sam

Apple CarPlay will only work with the CPC200-CCPA. On the forum, you can also find information about the CPC200-Autokit working correctly.
We’ve tested CarPlay with the CPC200-Autokit as well, and it does work, but it required a firmware upgrade to the 2022 version (or newer) to correctly display metadata (track title, album, artist, and cover art).

Most other dongles only convert wired CarPlay to wireless - they don’t emulate a head unit like the CPC200-Autokit or CPC200-CCPA.
To use CarPlay wirelessly, you don’t need to enable the hotspot in Hudiy. That hotspot is only required for Android Auto. CPC200-Autokit and CPC200-CCPA create their own hotspot.
The CPC200-Autokit and CPC200-CCPA also support a Bluetooth connection while CarPlay is active.
A Bluetooth link between the Raspberry Pi and your iPhone is only necessary when you’re not using CarPlay - in that case, voice calls are handled over Bluetooth on the Raspberry Pi via oFono + PipeWire/WirePlumber.

Thanks for getting back to me on this.
Thats what I had thought in terms of emulation and the Hudiy/Pi not providing the CarPlay base unit.
On a side note it'd be great to have a section detailing the basic hardware recommended or required to get a simple solid build up and running in any vehicle.
Thanks again.
