HifiBerry and GPS Hardware
HifiBerry and GPS Hardware
I wonder if the HifiBerry sound cards and GPS module can be used with HUDIY? also, is there any instruction to setup the gpsd information into Android Auto or Carplay services?
Re: HifiBerry and GPS Hardware
Hello,
We’ve covered this topic in our FAQ: https://hudiy.eu/faq/#toggle-id-11.
In general, Hudiy uses PipeWire for audio which is the default audio subsystem in Bookworm. We’ve seen that HiFiBerry provides modules that are compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5, so it’s likely that this hardware is also compatible with PipeWire.
As for GPS - the Android Auto protocol supports receiving GPS data, and Hudiy provides it via gpsd, if a GPS module is detected on the Raspberry Pi. However, what Android Auto actually does with this data is unclear (we can see in logcat that GPS data is being received by Android Auto).
To be honest, we haven’t noticed any major improvement in GPS signal accuracy when using a connected GPS module.
Unfortunately, CarlinKit dongles do not support GPS data. They also don’t forward navigation maneuver information the way Android Auto does.

Re: HifiBerry and GPS Hardware
I'm wondering if it is better to use the audio output from HDMI. Any comment?
