Here's an ongoing chronicle of of progress trying to get an install working. Pi setup is:

Pi 5, 256GB SSD, Official touchscreen 2, Bookworm 64bit.

Progress so far:

Flashed image to to ssd and booted up to desktop.
Did apt update and apt upgrade, enable ssh server, rotate display to wide mode, reboot
Scp over install pkg from laptop and install it. Put in order number, got install success message.
prompted for reboot and said okay.
Pi booted back up, showed desktop for a moment and then jumped to hudiy logo which pulsed for a minute and then went to a blank black screen.
If I tap the screen, I get an option box to "Configure" or "Exit". I selected exit and just have a blank black screen now. Ssh in doesn't work, but I can ping it, so I know it's on my wifi. Alt+F4 doesn't seem to do anything.
Hard power cycle and unplugged the physical keyboard and this time I get a TOS after hudiy logo. Accepted and got the main screen!
I clicked into the android auto screen and plugged in my phone. Got a popup about "could not find udev rule".
Hudiy seems to have crashed and dropped me to the desktop, but with no background and a little error circle at the wifi spot. Non responsive. Rebooting again.
Booted back up to hudiy, appearing functional. Tapped the wifi logo to see whats up. Says hotspot is enabled. Crashes again and drops me to a white desktop with only a "wastebasket" icon. I can touchscreen tap the wastbasket and select it. Mouse does not work. long hold on desktop via touchscreen shows the desktop preferences menu.
Plug in keyboard, doesn't do anything. Time for hard power cycle.
Did alt F4 this time when it booted up and I"m back at the desktop, got working mouse, and it connected to wifi. Gonna look for logs.

Current thoughts are:

udev rules should be handled during setup
if it crashes, it should catch errors and try to release the keyboard and gracefully drop back to the desktop
maybe wifi should remain active for debugging until enabling android auto wireless connections where it needs to open a hotspot.
If I missed any install steps/pre-conditions, these should be checked for by the installer and pop up warning messages. Success message means everything was okay before/during install.

Looking forward to getting this working! Very cool platform. I'm not terribly exciting about making custom dashboards/apps, but hope to have a working out of the box setup with android auto and ability (probably outside of hudiy) to configure audio channels with filters and stuff. Thanks!

Hello, could you please post the full log?

What power supply do you use? We have actually exact same setup on our desk (Pi5 + Pi Touchscreen II + 256GB NVMe).

Based on the detailed description you provided, issues like:

Crashes again and drops me to a white desktop with only a "wastebasket" icon.

Okay, couple of screens of log messages pasted in. Hmm, maybe I could have attached the log file..

I'm using the official 5a raspberry pi power supply. I'm gonna try an OS reload and reinstall of the tool later today. Will let you know how it goes!

I just realized that I didn't have the "Full" image installed. It had the desktop, but not all the addtl stuff, so maybe there was a library or something missing that hudiy needed. Just tried that and same result.

Next try is removing the ssd in case it's sucking too much power and causing probs. Just booted an sd card instead and trying that.

I reinstalled and made a few changes and it seems to be working now!
* Installed on an SD card to remove any possible issues with 3rd party ssd stuff - maybe this was causing power probs as you mentioned. I'm gonna order an official ssd at some point.
* Flipped around the pi on the back of the display and used right rotation instead of left.
* Disabled hotspot in the config file before first boot with hudiy so I could be sure to have ssh to poke around if it had probs.

I still got the udev rule error popup when I plugged my phone in with usb, but android auto seems to work. I need to increase it's resolution. I'll try enabling hotspot and see if wireless AA works. Cool cool!

Regarding the resolution, you can check out this thread viewtopic.php?t=7 and the docs for Android Auto configuration on our GitHub https://github.com/wiboma/hudiy/blob/ma ... ndroidauto. You can also let us know which display you're using and we'll help you find the right settings.

The udev errors most likely come from pcmanfm (the default file manager on Raspberry Pi OS). By default, pcmanfm tries to mount every connected USB device as a removable drive, and since the Android Auto connection switches the phone from MTP mode to AOA (Android Open Accessory), it can cause these errors. You can disable automatic mounting of USB devices as storage in the pcmanfm settings (viewtopic.php?p=186&hilit=preferences#p186)
